This is by far the best road trip for any animal loving travellers! Kangaroo Island is home to a wide array of different wildlife, with cheeky sea lions, breathtaking whales, kangaroos, and Koalas. The island has over 1600kms of roads to explore so there is plenty to see and do on the island. If wildlife isn’t your thing, the island hosts an amazing food and wine trail where you have the opportunity to sample the unique flavours of the island. Another one of the cool things you can do while visiting is check out the Flinders Chase National Park...home of the Remarkable Rocks and Admiral's Arch! It’s recommended that you stay at least over-night so you have enough time to explore the Island.
This short little day trip is about exploring the quirky hippie towns of Byron Bay and Nimbin. Brisbane to Byron is just a short 2 hour drive, however, feel free to stop off at the NSW/QLD boarder to check out some of the stunning coastal views and have some lunch before continuing on. Once you arrive in Byron, check out some of the shops lining the main streets, check out the lighthouse or if you’re feeling adventurous, sign up for one of the Sea Kayaking tours. After exploring Byron, start travelling towards Nimbin, which is located in the Hinterlands of Byron Bay. The small hippie town is into sustainable living practices and is also well known for its cannabis counterculture. If you want to explore some of the most fun and unique towns in Australia, this is the perfect road trip for you.
It is recommended that you set aside about a week for this awesome trip up the east coast, especially if you want to explore all of the stunning beaches lining the east coast. Starting in Brisbane make your way North towards Rainbow Beach – where you can choose to head out to the famous Fraser Island. Keep heading up the north coast and stop at any of the towns that catch your eye – Seventeen Seventy and Airlie Beach are great little towns to explore. Once you arrive in Cairns be sure to go on a Great Barrier Reef tour or participate in some exciting White Water Rafting in the Tully River.
