Adventure Awaits

On Victoria's south coast lies Phillip Island, a beautiful paradise home to a colony of around 32,000 little penguins - famous for their late-night parade as they emerge from the surf. Witness the waddle and the many other animals on the island, while also taking in the wonderful natural surroundings.

Itinerary

Day 1:
In order to make the most of the day and see the penguins at night, the tour departs from Melbourne mid to late morning/early afternoon, depending on the season. Enjoy a complimentary lunch en route the island and our first stop - the Australian Wildlife Park. The park is home to koalas, kangaroos, emus, wombats, Tasmanian devils and species of birds. After we meet our first animal friends of the day, we head to Woolamai Beach or the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory to sample some local delights. Then we pass by the official Moto Grand Prix track and head to Swan Lake to see wetland birds and wallabies from the hidden observation platforms. We head to the headland after this to spot seals from The Nobbies, Seal Rocks and the Blowhole. The tour's highlight comes by night when we wait for the world's smallest penguins to emerge from the surf and parade across their island home.

We arrived early enough to enjoy a nice meal. Plenty of variety on the menu to please people of all ages and budgets. After the meal we commenced our way down through the lands toward the beach. Everything was very well maintained. We were early enough to enjoy seats right up the front. The gentleman ranger explaining the night was very clear helpful and thorough. Once the penguins began to appear onto shore it was such a beautiful site. They were appearing in little groups over about 20-30 minutes. We had a great time and highly recommend.

We went right in the middle of breeding season which was the perfect time to go, as a majority of the penguins had to return to the shore to feed their young, and they were in their hundreds!! It was very unique to see that many penguins return to shore and the boardwalk back to the visitor centre allowed guests to get up close and personal with the penguins as they returned to their boxes. It was a fantastic educational experience also and the staff were very knowledgeable about the penguins. We would have liked a bit more time out there to enjoy the spectacle as we did feel a bit rushed, but this didn’t really matter as it was overshadowed by the awesomeness of seeing nature at its best.
