Day 1: Depart Rainbow Beach
We begin with a morning briefing at Freedom Hostels Rainbow Beach at 7:30 am where we cover the following: Pack cars, check equipment and a Dingo’s safety and driver briefing. We drive approximately 10 minutes to the barge (ferry) and board for our short barge crossing. Once we have arrived on the world's biggest sand island, we traverse the eastern beach...Fraser Island's own highway with speed limits! The adventure begins as we drive to the famous Lake McKenzie...arguably the most popular and picturesque highlight of Fraser! Here we stop for some lunch, and for quality time to have a play in the amazingly clear waters with your new friends! Around 3:00 pm we drive up the beach to our campsite for an early dinner and some well-deserved drinks and fun!
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2: Return to Rainbow Beach
Arise in the morning for a quick breakfast before we begin our second day on Fraser Island. Depending on tidal conditions we will try and head up to Indian Head, Fraser Island's highest point. From here you may be lucky enough to see whales and sharks in the ocean before we travel to Champagne Pools for a dip! We will then visit Eli Creek, a beautifully clear creek perfect for a relaxing swim and a stop at Maheno shipwreck for some photos and a short history lesson about this famous Fraser Island icon. Alternatively, instead of heading to Indian Heads and Champagne Pools, we will drive to the beginning of the Lake Wabby trail, where we walk through the sand dunes to this tropical paradise! Then it's time to begin our drive down the beach heading back to the barge. Once back on the mainland we return to the 4WD shed where you unpack and quickly clean the cars. We arrive at Freedom Rainbow Beach between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
