CHRISTCHURCH TO NELSON
An early start today through the beautiful Canterbury plains towards
Culverden for a morning coffee stop. Hop back on the coach for our
scenic mountain journey through the epic Lewis Pass, stopping in
Murchison for lunch. Then travel through vineyards to Nelson, New
Zealand’s sunniest city.
NELSON TO ABEL TASMAN
Spend the day in Nelson before jumping on the bus in the afternoon
through to the National Park. After a stop at the supermarket to stock
up on supplies, we drive on to Kaiteriteri at the edge of the Abel Tasman
National Park where a beautiful golden sand beach is on your doorstep.
We recommend spending a full day in the National Park, chilling on the
beach and walking a section of the multi day track. Kayak, walk or sail into
the park and get as far as Adele Island and Anchorage bay for a swim and
relaxing stroll along the coast
ABEL TASMAN TO WESTPORT
Enjoy the late departure so you can spend the morning kayaking out to
Split Apple Rock and along the golden bays near Kaiteriteri, looking out
for the local marine wildlife; or catch a water taxi to one of the bays in
the Abel Tasman National Park to go for a morning stroll in the native
New Zealand forest. This afternoon we stop at the iconic Nelson Lakes
National Park so you can get your legendary wharf jumping shot before
traveling through snow-capped mountains and wild Buller River Gorge
on your journey towards the Wild West Coast. On arrival into the surfing
town of Westport explore the rugged coastline by surfing or stand up
paddle boarding, or check out the rugged West Coast Beach nearby.
WESTPORT TO LAKE MAHINAPUA
Today we journey down spectacular State Highway 6, which stretches 435
kilometres along the rugged Tasman shoreline. The road winds through
a diverse series of landscapes which never cease to amaze. Tonight we
spend the night in a traditional West Coast pub where you have a chance
to enjoy a delicious group meal and bond with your bus mates.
LAKE MAHINAPUA TO FRANZ JOSEF
Start the day with a hearty breakfast at Lake Mahinapua before we
continue along the beautiful West Coast of New Zealand through
forests and past the towering Southern Alps to glacier country. Franz
Josef is the northern gateway to Te Wahipounamu, the Southwest New
Zealand World Heritage area. The region includes Aoraki/Mount Cook,
Westland Tai Poutini, Mount Aspiring, the Fiordland National Parks, and
surrounding conservation lands.
FREE DAY IN FRANZ JOSEF
Today is your chance to hike on Franz Josef Glacier, rated as one of the
top three activities in New Zealand by Kiwi Experience passengers. You
could also enjoy a scenic heli-flight over the glacier, go horseback riding,
kayaking, paintball or explore the various walks in the area. We factor in a
free day in Franz Josef so that you can get out there and experience all it
has to offer. It’s a wicked spot, and whatever you get out and do, you will
be blown away by the views of the glacier and the Alps.
We stay an extra night in Franz Josef because there’s so much to
do, however if you are short on time you can skip this extra day,
FRANZ JOSEF TO WANAKA
We start out early in order to catch the perfect reflections of Mt Cook
and the Southern Alps on Lake Matheson. We then journey to the
magical Southern Lakes region and take the time to chill in the beautiful
Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area. Then it’s into Mount Aspiring
National Park, arriving in the awe-inspiring destination of Wanaka in the
WANAKA TO QUEENSTOWN
Before we leave Wanaka, get your brain working at Puzzling World and
then it’s on to the World Home of Bungy - the 47m Kawarau Bridge jump.
Only the brave will sign themselves up for this iconic New Zealand activity.
We arrive in Queenstown mid-afternoon and head down to the spectacular
waterfront before it’s out on the town exploring Queenstown’s infamous
nightlife with all the crew. Welcome to Queenstown. Adventure capital of
New Zealand... and the world! What more do we need to say?!
FREE DAY/S IN QUEENSTOWN
Queenstown is one of the most amazing places on Earth. No matter what
time of the year, it is rated as one of our passenger’s favourite spots. Take
the time to spend a few days here as it is one of the most picturesque
places in the world. Make the most of the beautiful lake and surrounding
walks, or get into a whole range of adrenalin pumping activities. World-
renowned for its adventure, Queenstown is home to a huge choice of
adrenaline based activities including jet boating, bungy jumping, white
water rafting and skydiving – all guaranteed to get your blood pumping!
If there was one activity that you couldn’t miss, it would be the day trip
to Milford Sound, commonly referred to as The Eighth Wonder of the
World. The region also has a world-class ski and snowboard season from
June to October. If you’re looking for a slightly slower pace there’s plenty
of hiking and biking trails too!
We allow extra nights in Queenstown because there’s so much
to do, however if you are short on time you can skip these days,
QUEENSTOWN TO LAKE TEKAPO
We head out of Queenstown, through the Lindis Pass, so get your
cameras ready because this is ‘Lord of the Rings’ territory. After stopping
to admire Mt Cook at Lake Pukaki, we travel to Lake Tekapo with its
amazing location by the snow-capped Alps and clear starry skies. You
have the option here to hop-off the bus and head up to Mt Cook with our
mates (please note this is an additional overnight stop and you will need
longer to do this than the minimum time). Lake Tekapo has something
for everyone - relaxing at the lakeside and taking in the untouched view,
soaking in the hot springs, discovering one of the many scenic walkways
or checking out the mind-boggling stars in what is the world’s largest
dark sky reserve.
LAKE TEKAPO TO CHRISTCHURCH
Today we have a straight run into Christchurch, our largest city in the
South Island and the 3rd largest in New Zealand. A day of contrasts
from snowy peaks to fertile plains in the Garden City of Christchurch, we
shift into sheep country, they outnumber humans 6:1. Witness the city
rebuilding and flourishing in the wake of the 2011 earthquakes and keep
your eyes peeled for the sweet pop-up bars around the city.
Spend some extra time in Christchurch and head to Kaikoura for a day.
Kaikoura is known as one of the best coastal wildlife regions in the world
- whales, dolphins and seals! In fact, the name Kaikoura means to eat
crayfish (“kai” meaning to eat, “koura” meaning crayfish).
